Action Lacking Planning Is The Number One Cause Of Fat Lost Failure

January 28, 2009

The most vital chapter in these entire fast diet articles – even though it has nothing to do with calories, protein, carbohydrates, fats, cardio, weights or anything else related to nutrition or training. You see, there is a plain, but critical procedure you must complete before you lift a weight, jog a mile, launch a nutrition program or even set foot in the gym. If you successfully complete this procedure, the nutrition and training will come easy and a lean body will soon follow. If you take no notice of this step – like most people do – you are destined to fail no matter what you do or how hard you try. This critical first step is goal setting. A lot has been said and written about goal setting – entire books have been devoted to the subject – but the truth is, most people never decide right ..

Dr. Phil’s Weight Loss Advice

January 27, 2009

Dr. Phil gives his overweight family members the same advice he shares with the Weight Loss Challengers.

Support Group:
Make sure to surround yourself with supportive people to help you get through the day. Key 7 in The Ultimate Weight Solution refers to your “Circle of Support.” It is important to have like-minded people around you — if you are trying to lose weight you want to be with people who are also trying to lose weight or have already reached their goals and can give you some insight. Also, make sure you don’t hold your support meetings at places that serve food — no restaurants!

Use Portion Control:
Stick to eating foods that are High Response Cost and High Yield foods. If you are going to a party during the holidays, eat something before you attend so you are not as hungry when you arrive and are less likely to pig out on junk food.

Don’t Label Yourself:

You are not a victim or a patient. Dr. Phil’s sister Deanna says, “I already knew so much was wrong with my health, I didn’t want to find out how much more was wrong with me.” You have to start thinking of yourself as a healthy person if you are to become one. Dr. Phil told his overweight nephew Tony, instead of being a passenger in life, start doing something about your problem.

Separate Body Image From Self Image:

Make sure not to confuse the reflection of your body image with how you really are as a person.

Exercise:

Do a full-body work out three times a week if possible. You want to do a mixture of cardiovascular and weights and choose something you like to do like swimming or biking.

Don’t Blame Your Genetics:

Issues with your weight are usually only 20% related to genetics. Your lifestyle makes you the way you are and this lifestyle becomes your identity. Dr. Phil tells his sister Brenda, “Blaming your weight on the family being overweight is an excuse.”

Slow and steady best for weight loss efforts

January 27, 2009

While January marks the beginning of weight loss plans for thousands of people, January 2007 marked the end for Pat Wickard’s weight reduction.

It had taken two years for Wickard, 54, to reach her ideal weight — and there were moments of frustration during weeks when there was no loss at all. But Wickard of East Pennsboro Twp. never lost hope.

She had gained weight over the course of a decade and had become discouraged by her appearance and lack of well being. “I was feeling tired,” she said. “I was reading about how being overweight could affect people’s health, with diabetes and such. I was determined to lose weight and take care of myself.”

An initial visit to Weight Watchers indicated that her ideal weight was less than 159 pounds. She was 50 pounds over that. Realizing only a combination of diet and exercise was likely to take the weight off and keep it off, Wickard also enrolled in Curves and Tai Chi.

Fortunately, too, the mother of one had the support of her daughter, Kristin (getting married in May) in preparing and eating healthy meals. “We’ve been careful to include four or five fruit servings a day and have lots of water,” Wickard said. “Sometimes it’s just the little things that help, such as substituting whole wheat for white bread or 1 percent milk for whole.”

In a sense, Wickard did make a New Year’s resolution two years ago — not to rest on her laurels. She became a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, where she attends a weekly meeting. “If you stay within two pounds of your goal weight, you can go for free,” Wickard said.

Setting realistic goals, such as a slow but steady loss, is one thing Wickard learned along the way. “A lot of people want to lose 20 pounds in two months, but they’ll often go back to what they were before,” she said. “I’m glad it took me that long, because the weight didn’t come back on. I had to learn to eat differently.”

That meant eating less in general but also cutting back on portions even of healthy foods. If she eats something not on the approved list, such as an English muffin, she makes adjustments later rather than berating herself.

Wickard was also challenged by her sedentary lifestyle. She sits at a desk all day in her job as a claims review specialist at DST Health Solutions. So she began walking up the 54 steps to her third-floor office instead of taking the elevator. She parks farther from her destinations and, above all, goes to Curves straight from work. “If I come home first, I lose momentum,” she said. She goes three times a week.

Kathy Trapp, owner of the Enola Curves franchise, calls Wickard a “winner and a role model” to the other women. “She tells them they can do it, like she did.”

While the women-only facility focuses primarily on an exercise course based on resistance, rather than weight, members also undergo an initial fitness assessment of their general health as well as their weight loss and fitness goals. “If a woman weighs 200 pounds and is 5 feet 7 inches and wants to go down to 115, we try to help her see it’s not realistic,” Trapp said. “That weight is great as a teenager, but not for an adult. We talk about lifestyle and what the person’s motivator or driving force is for losing weight and getting fit.”

Often that “motivator” might be attending a class reunion or becoming a grandparent for the first time. It could be a daughter getting married. Or it might be less positive — such as a husband or significant other making a truthful comment when a woman asks that classic question: “Does this dress make me look fat?”

“We call it the ‘X factor,’ something that breaks the camel’s back,” Trapp said. In Wickard’s case the “X factor” was partly internal and partly not. She was going through a divorce and beginning life anew.

Curves offers a six-week weight-management program, Trapp said, who has a degree in family and consumer science and teaches food and nutrition at Central Dauphin Middle School. The program focuses on simple behavior modification, such as drinking eight glasses of water a day.

Although Wickard turned to Weight Watchers first, she believes its program would have been less effective without the fitness program at Curves. What’s more, she feels better emotionally after a workout session. “On some days, it’s hard to go, but the program takes only half an hour, and it’s not real vigorous. I do a lot of stretching. It feels good,” she said.

Moreover, despite tiring days at work or finding motivation during bad weather, Wickard finds it easier to be committed to a structured program. “I have exercise tapes at home, and that works for a week or two,” she said. “But then I lose momentum. And with a program, I also get to know other women.”

Diet and Weight Loss Essentials

January 27, 2009

“Diet” is a word that invokes a variety of emotions from a variety of people.  Some people see the word as a set of rules to be followed when you need to lose weight, yet others see it as a general eating habit.  Here we will look at “diet” as a little of both.

People generally diet for one of a couple of reasons, they either want to lose weight (slim down) or they have a health issue that requires better eating habits.

When you diet to lose weight, you need to ask yourself one key question, “Am I losing weight to weigh less or to slim down?” This question is so important it determines how you will approach your diet.  I’ve seen way too much dependency on the bathroom scale from dieters and not enough on how well their clothes fit or how they are toning up.  This can ..

Succeed With A Good Fast Fat Loss Diet

January 27, 2009

If you have more fat on your body than you would like to have, it is time for you to understand what a good fast fat loss diet can do to help you shed excess pounds. Fortunately, there are a number of tips that can help you to understand the benefits of using fast fat loss diet, and the good news in this regard is that many of the tips are very easy to follow and don’t require much effort on your part.

Small Meals

The first tip as far as a proper fast fat loss diet goes is to consume between four and six meals in a day as well as take snacks in between and so, an ideal fast fat loss diet would mean eating three small meals interspersed with tiny snacks that can be taken every two to three hours as this has been found to improve metabolism as well as helps in burning off excess and unwanted calories.

Another fast fat loss diet tip that can stand you in good stead is preparing fresh foods as well as low fat foods on the previous night which can then be stored in your refrigerator overnight because this has been found to be a good way of preventing eating more than is necessary, and it can also prove to be a money saving method as well as it helps control the quantity of food consumed.

Also, you need to also ensure that you go easy with your fast fat loss diet and not get mired in the swamp of too many details and it is far better to count your calories so as to keep your weight under control. It is obvious that the more calories you do not consume the less unwanted fat will be stored in your body and if you also do something to burn calories, maintaining proper weight will not be a problem.

You should not do extreme things in order to succeed with fast fat loss weight and thus there is no sense resorting to extreme diets or fad diets because you would probably end up being disappointed with the end results.

You can also benefit from a fast fat loss diet by ensuring that you eat slowly because that is the best way to control the number of calories consumed and it also helps you enjoy your meals even more and of course it aids in better digestion as well. If you don’t swallow your food in a hurry you will also find that by setting down your spoon after each mouthful you would be satisfied with less.

Other useful fast fat loss diet tips include staying off high-fat foods, sugar as well as high fat dairy items, and emphasizing more on taking fruits and vegetables as these are good means of reducing risk of developing chronic conditions and it also helps improve your health as well.

How to Lose Those Love Handles

January 27, 2009

Although fat is the source of vitality our body needs, there is a very important difference between having enough or more than enough fat in the body. Of course there is nothing which adds more fun to watching a movie with loads of fat-rich snacks in front of you, but you are becoming fatter in the process. The next step is to spend waking nights thinking of which exercises to do to do away with the love handles, so what should you do? Love handles are those extra tires of flesh oozing out round your waist near the brim of your pants which not only look bad but are unhealthy too, so you need to make them go away. If you make exercise part of your daily routine, it can help you keep an attractive body.

But then losing those extra flaps is a daunting task requiring labor and discipline.

Dangers of Using Laxatives For Weight Loss

January 27, 2009

One popular weight loss supplements available in the market today take the form of tea. Stores all over sell slimming tea, dieter’s tea and others but all of them are actually the same. They may appear to be effective, but what is not seen may actually harm you.

One of the effects of drinking dieter’s tea is frequent bowel movement. This gives people the feeling of body cleansing. These people may get toxins out of their body but it isn’t exactly the only thing that slimming tea actually does to the body. Slimming tea contains herbs which are natural laxatives. These include aloe, senna, rhubarb root, cascara, buckthorn and castor oil. These are products which are derived from plants and are used since the ancient times because of their potency in treating constipation and to inducing bowel movement.

Cascara, castor oil and senna are substances which are recognized as laxatives available over ..
